Reminisce  {v.}

... to indulge fondly in a recollection of the past.

"Reminiscing" Series
One color - One brush stroke - One layer at at time

I remember that little girl who painted at the kitchen table; with those small pots of oil paints and paint-by-numbers that Mom bought me.  Each night before dinner having to put everything away.  Oh how the oils paints and turpentine must have really smelled the house.   The paintings started out small and each one got larger and more complicated.

I remember starting this series ("Reminiscing") last Summer not knowing where it was going to lead.  If you would have ever asked me if I'd work with Watercolors in the past, I would have given a resounding, wide-eyed shaking my head "no" to this seemingly daunting medium.  I'd only had a basic class watercolor in College a long time ago...

With a "Why not?" attitude, I'd thought I'd try to see where it would lead.  So, pulling some of my archived photographs, tube watercolors and watercolor paper that I already had from that college basic watercolor class, began during "stay at home" COVID.

I had been looking for paint that I could leave and come back to as I could be called away at any time, as my Dad was ill.  Then last Spring, a discovery!  Art of Soil ¹hand-made soil-based watercolors. I purchased a small palette and didn't begin using them until Summer... So, with my archived photographs, handmade watercolors, and Mineral  Paper², started this series.

Just before he passed he'd asked if I would teach him watercolor. Bittersweet as I did not get the opportunity - yet -  was one of the best compliments ever!

A recent trip to Cincinnati Art Museum to see the Georgia O'Keeffe photography exhibit made an impact on myself.  Having been to her Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico many years ago, well known for her paintings, this was an exhibit that gave us another side of herself as an artist - photographs. I smiled all the way through the exhibit and came home with, not only an opened perspective (if you will) into the Artist's life, but inspired and now I like her even more.  I have always photographed from those early days and drew/painted.  Hence, it's only natural for me to continue... Maybe coming full circle?

Sometimes starting a project, not knowing where it may lead... little did I know that all these years later, I would be painting with hand-made watercolors¹... that would send me on a Watercolor adventure "Reminiscing".  More to Come...
